This privacy policy sets out how Bishops’ Conference of Scotland (“we” or “us”) uses your personal information when you book and attend a Marriage Preparation Course which we host, and when you use our website, marriagefamilyandlife.org.uk.

About us

The Bishops’ Conference of Scotland is the controller of the personal information which we collect and use to allow us to administer Marriage Preparation Courses, including handling your online booking for a course.  This means that we are responsible for, and control the handling of, your personal information for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679.

We are registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (the “ICO”) with registration number Z8102677.

How we use your information

We will collect your personal information for purposes set out below.  Our legal basis for processing the personal information for the purposes set out below is that it is in our legitimate interests to process the personal information in this manner for the proper administration of the Marriage Preparation Courses.

Your rights

If you wish to exercise any of your rights as a data subject, please contact us by email to [email protected].

We may need to verify your identity for your security. In such cases, we shall not be able to comply with your request until you have provided the necessary information to allow us to verify your identity.

• The right to access information we hold about you

At any point you can contact us to request that the information we hold about you as well as why we have that information, who has access to the information and where we got the information. Once we have received your request we will respond within 30 days.

• The right to correct and update the information we hold about you

If the data we hold about you is out of date, incomplete or incorrect, you can inform us and we will ensure that it is updated.

• The right to have your information erased

If you feel that we should no longer be using your data or that we are illegally using your data, you can request that we erase the data we hold.

We are not obliged to erase any information which we have a valid legal basis to hold.  When we receive your request, we will confirm whether the data has been deleted or tell you the reason why it cannot be deleted.

• The right to object to processing of your data

You have the right to request that the Bishop’s Conference of Scotland stops processing your data. We are not obliged to stop processing your data where we have a valid legal basis to continue to do so.

Upon receiving your request, we will contact you to tell you if we are able to comply or if we have legitimate grounds to continue. If data is no longer processed, we may continue to hold your data to comply with your other rights.

• The right to ask us to stop contacting you with direct marketing

You have the right to request that your personal information is not used for direct marketing purposes.

We will not use your personal information for the purposes of direct marketing, however, we may from time to time send you emails informing you about relevant news and upcoming events. You can opt out of receiving this information by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in any of the emails which you receive.

• The right to data portability

You have the right to request that we transfer your data to another controller. Once we have received your request, we will comply where it is feasible to do so.
